Most home improvement contractors and remodelers have contemplated a new product line when they wanted to build their business. And although a new product line promises an expanded customer base and an opportunity to revisit past customers, it also means some lag time as your sales and installation crews become confident with the new product.

Thermal Industries, a leading manufacturer of vinyl outdoor building products based in Pittsburgh, PA, offers a unique and innovative training program called the Guardian Angel Program that makes the transition to a new product more comfortable and productive.

The Guardian Angel Program, available for Thermal’s full line of vinyl outdoor products including vinyl replacement windows and patio doors, DreamspacE® patio enclosures and sunrooms and Dream®Deck vinyl deck and railing systems, offers hands-on assistance throughout the entire sales process. From lead generation, in-home presentations, installation training and service calls, Thermal has dedicated a team of “Guardian Angels” throughout its 20 branch locations that are made available to customers requesting assistance with a job.

“Our goal for the program is pretty simple. By offering assistance in the home and on the job, we anticipate few mistakes when measuring, pricing and installing. Most home improvement contractors and remodelers can recall a time when they could have used some help on a job when it was priced or installed. If they had received some real training prior to the sale, they could have avoided the call backs and saved a bundle,” said Bill Doyle, Guardian Angel Program manager for Thermal Industries.

“It is also a chance to get buy-in from our customer’s installation crews. If they aren’t comfortable with a new product, chances are it will create some problems for the dealer. We basically eliminate the learning curve, making it a win for everyone.”

The program allows for continued training as products continue to be improved through installation videos and dealer visits. Each Guardian Angel receives rigorous on-going training so they are qualified to train a dealer and their installation crews.

“The program is very comprehensive. It’s so detailed that the dealer even receives a tool list necessary to install the job. We want the dealer to sell our product and we feel the best way to accomplish that is to give him or her all of the tools necessary to make the transition to a new product as comfortable as possible,” said Doyle.
